Candidate info and sample ballots for the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th Districts

Our coverage area has a number of contested local races for 2nd District, 3rd District, and 6th District City Council, School Board, and Mayor, as well as choices to for POTUS, Senate, and House of Representatives.

In addition to selecting one candidate or another, there are 2 proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution concerning eminent domain and some wonky legislative scheduling details. Inform yourself: brochure / poster.

Northside stretches across 3 different Richmond districts. Each of these will choose a City Council representative and a School Board representative.

City of Richmond Districts

2nd DISTRICT

There are 2 candidates for 2nd District City Council seat. 2nd District Council Representative Charles Samuels was first elected to the position in 2008 with 45% of the vote, with Tyron Bey and Patrick Kjellberg splitting the remainder.

There are 3 candidates for the 2nd District School Board seat. 2nd District Schoolboard Representative Kimberly Gray was elected to the position in 2008 with 63% of the vote, defeating off Lisa Dawson. Daisy Weaver and Mariah White are challenging for the seat.

3rd DISTRICT

There are 2 candidates for 3rd District City Council seat. 3rd District Council Representative Chris Hilbert was first elected to the position in 2004, was not opposed in 2006, and won in 2008 with 57% of the vote.

There are 2 candidates for the 3rd District School Board seat. Murdoch-Kitt ran unopposed and was first elected to the position in 2008, after an unsuccessful write-in campaign in 2006.

    3rd District City Council candidate Chris Hilbert has been endorsed the Richmond City Democratic Comm., Richmond Firefighters Assoc., Richmond Assoc. of Realtors, Richmond Education Association, Delegate Jennifer McClellan, Senator Donald McEachin, Delegate Joe Morrissey , Richmond Commonwealth Attorney Mike Herring, Former School Board Member Carol A.O. Wolf, Former Richmond City Councilman Bill Johnson, and Richmond Sheriff C.T. Woody.

    3rd District City School Board candidate Jeff Bourne has been endorsed by Senator Mark Warner, Richmond Association of Realtors, Richmond Education Association, Richmond Crusade for Voters.
