Armed robbery and attempted carjacking at New Chinatown Express

Kiniry said the first crime was the 10:05 p.m. robbery of the New Chinatown Express restaurant in the 100 block of West Brookland Park Boulevard, where a suspect entered through a rear door, brandished a black handgun, robbed the business of cash and ran out a rear door toward North Avenue.

Moments later, a suspect tried to carjack a vehicle and fired at least two shots at the vehicle before it sped off, Kiniry said. One shot struck the vehicle, which brushed against two houses in the 3000 block of North Avenue as it drove away from the shooter, Kiniry said.

No one was injured. This incident, along with all the other violent crimes in 2012, can be viewed over on our crime map.
