Chamberlayne Actors Theatre Announces 2011-12 Season

CAT’s mission is to present the metro Richmond area with a unique, dynamic, professional theatre experience in a welcoming and creative atmosphere.

The 2011-2012 Show Season will be kicked off with HOME FIRES by Jack Heifner from October 21 through November 6. After her husband leaves her, she is forced to take in female boarders to make ends meet. The house is crowded and the eccentric women who stay there are entertaining, lost souls looking for husbands and careers in a world without men. The play examines family, home, honor and dreams during a time when everyone had to “make do or do without.”

From January 20 through February 5, 2011, CAT will present ALMIGHTY BOB by Tom Mula, a story about feisty old Bob who is hard to handle since he had a stroke, and his daughter admits him to to Providence, an assisted living home. From March 23 through April 7 CAT will present THE CHILDREN’S HOUR by Lillian Hellman. This serious and adult play about two women who run a school for girls. After a lalicious youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields, she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It is later discoverd that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too late as irreparable damage has been done.

The show season will wind down with CATFISH MOON by Laddy Sartin from May 18 through June 3. The old fishing pier out on the end of Cypress Lake has just fallen under the magic of another Catfish Moon. It was the favorite hangout for three best friends when they were kids. Now Curley, Gordon and Frog are older, and Curley convinces Frog and Gordon to go on an overnight fishing trip like old times. On the pier, the weight of adulthood is lifted by laughter and their love for fishing, and the three guys discover that their friendship was never really lost.
