Murder in Barton Heights

NBC12 is reporting a double shooting / single murder in Southern Barton Heights last night:

It happened around 3:00 Saturday morning at the intersection of West Fells and St. James Streets. When officers arrived they discovered two men with gunshot wounds. Police say one died at the hospital, the other is expected to survive.

From the RPD:

Richmond Police investigators are currently investigating the shooting of two men early this morning.

At approximately 2:50 a.m. Saturday, officers were called to Fells and St. James streets for a report of random gunfire and were on scene within one minute.

When they arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital where one of the men, Paul Gray, 41, of the 100 block of Yancey Street, later died of his injuries.

The motive for this crime initially appears to be robbery.

Investigators are asking anyone with any information about this crime to call the Department’s Tipline at 514-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 first using the word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.

    Does anyone know how to get in touch with the Gray family? I worked with Paul for years at Ellwood Thompson’s. He was a great guy. I know some people who would want to help the family with arrangements.
