Openly gay ministry candidate speaks at Ginter Park Presbyterian
Ginter Park Presbyterian Church was mentioned in the Times-Dispatch’s recent story on Lisa Larges, an open lesbian who has been a candidate for ministry in the Presbyterian Church since the 80s. A 1989 graduate of the San Francisco Theological Seminary, Larges shared her story at Ginter Park Presbyterian this past Sunday.
From the article:
Larges, who is blind, told her story Sunday morning at Ginter Park Presbyterian Church during a discussion of the Belhar Confession, which has its roots in the struggle against apartheid in South Africa and which calls for the church to repent of its divisions and to manifest, in its life and work, the unifying love of Christ.
Ginter Park’s pastor, the Rev. Carla Pratt Keyes, said welcoming Larges into the church is consistent with its mission statement, which affirms all people equally.
“We have within this congregation supported people without regard to sexual orientation,” Keyes said. “We have discerned God’s call in their lives and welcomed their leadership. To welcome Lisa here is a way of expressing our appreciation for God’s call in her life.”
