Shooting on 3000 block of Montrose Avenue
A NRN reader left this comment yesterday afternoon letting us know about a shooting on the 3000 block of Montrose Avenue, near Brookland Park Boulevard:
“shooting in the alley on the 3000 block of Montrose Ave., close to the Brooklyne [sic] Park Boulevard. A group of five youths — around late teens to early twenties –fired off several rounds from an assortment of small hand-guns to what sounded like a shot-gun. The youths fled up Edgewood Ave on foot. Anyone have any information on this incident are to contact the Richmond City Police Department”
The Times-Dispatch also had info on this shooting, pointing out that neighborhood residents provided key assistance in helping officers find two guns and develop suspect information pertaining to the shooting.
Capt. David L. Martin said officers responded to a random gunfire call and found that two houses had been struck by bullets.
A canine search of the neighborhood and information from residents helped officers find an assault rifle under a pile of leaves and a 9mm handgun under a porch. Residents also helped police develop leads about possible suspects, Martin said.
“People opened their doors and were willing to help us,” Martin said, “and because of that, these guns are off the streets.”
There were no injuries in this shooting. Read the full story here.
If you have any information on this shooting, please contact the Richmond Police Department at 804-646-5100 or Crime Stoppers at 804-780-1000.

Cheers! to good neighbors-good looking out! Very glad to hear there are two less guns on the street. There have been an awful lot of bullets fired recently. I am scared that it is going to get really bad once summer comes. I wish there was more news coverage of random gunfire. There needs to be more done about this. More involvement from news orgs, neighbors and the police.
What ever happen to “Project Exile”?
Max – Exile is still in existence. In fact, the now defunct dealer’s brother on my street is facing those charges. Like you, not surprised about that block of Montrose. The dealers that used to (don’t know if they still do) stand out in front of the car dealership and the seafood place used to have their runners (hoppers) go up and down that alley to carry goods.
These guys are starting to realize that they don’t have neighborhood support. The very next night, a group of about 10 guys stood on my corner and were in a heated argument (did not know these guys). My husband went out and gave them the stink eye, and they dispersed. It was quite obviously an important meeting that he interrupted because they first tried to give him the stare-down.
that’s it…..make punks and thugs feel uncomfortable as possible…..my block is so nice now…people on porches hanging out, waving, playing guitar, little kids out playing…….no crack dealers or users…yaaaaaaaaa.
I was in the front yard when I heard the gun fire. I did call and report that I heard gun fire. While I was on the phone with dispatch 3 black males dress all in black came running out between the houses across the street.
The dealers are using 2900 blocks and 3000 blocks of streets connecting to the blvd to complete their transactions. Cars pull up the curb and dealers come up the cars make an exchange and then their are gone.
