This is insane. I put up with some of the late-night shooting because it at least seemed normal that crazy things happen. But afternoon and early evening shootings in densely traveled areas where stray bullets can hit anyone make me furious. I really hope Corrigan’s meeting turns into change in this neighborhood.
Actually Elizabeth this is Lt. Tovar’s Sector not Lt. Corrigan.
Town: That is part of the issue. The problems that happen in 411 bleed over to 412. The dealers and other people that are up to no good don’t care about which sector they are in.
These different sectors need to start sharing information across lines so they can use resources better and take care of things faster.
Around Town, I’m referring to the quote from Ross earlier this week that Corrigan was working on some kind of meeting for more funds to address needs in the area. If 411 and 412 aren’t partnering and addressing the overlap, then RPD is incompetent.
In fact, the Corrigan comment was posted just yesterday afternoon: http://northrichmondnews.com/news/2010/10/20/update-from-rpd-on-two-recent-shootings/
I talked to Lt. Corrigan yesterday about the “outside help” quote. He was, understandably, unable to talk about what that meant — he didn’t want to release strategy information. But the RPD is definitely aware of the escalating violence along the Chamberlayne corridor and are working on a plan.
He also talked a bit about how when major events, like the two murders, occur it draws police resources from other places. So, you’ll have less police patrolling streets for robberies/break-ins because they’ll all be involved in guarding a crime scene.
I asked him to keep me updated on their progress. Overall, he is a great guy to talk to.
Im so sorry to hear about this
Not sure if it’s out there yet…but we had ANOTHER drive by on our block last night on Barton Ave. My husband counted 16 shots! No one was hit but it appears they’re targeting the same houses as the last drive by shooting on 9/12/10.
And I just missed the shooting Wed night on Brookland Park Blvd. I drove through about a half hour prior and then an hour later it was all blocked off and the ambulance was leaving.
It is all so ridiculous and stupid. And it’s a full moon…
Q, I’m sorry to hear that has happen. I’m guessing the police were called. Was anyone hurt? Nothing has been listed by police.
Ross I’m glad that your conversations have gone so well.
Q – copy that. Last night, at 9 p.m., a whole magazine was unloaded up on BPB somewhere near Hanes. I heard cars flying down my street right after the shots were fired (not sure if they were just trying to get out of firing range or they were the ones shooting). Yes, the police were called.
yes, police were there instantly. no one was hurt. just scared and really pissed off. there was a whole bunch of folks out here this afternoon getting into it in the street. cars pulling up and guys getting out shouting at each other. they scattered pretty quickly once the cops showed up.
Should be an eventful weekend around here, then. Let’s all agree to call in anything and everything that’s unusual.
I hope that folks do call in. Start calling the Mayor’s office. Otherwise it will be ignored.
Man, you havemy sympathies. Sounds like it’s getting out of control up there, Gilpin too.
Neighbor reported hearing 3 or 4 gun shots around 7am this morning.
Sorry meant to say it was along BPB.
Daily Crime Report ……Hope Corrigan gets some help soon. We really need it.
