Three wounded in shooting on Montrose Avenue
The RTD has scant details of a shooting on the 2900 block of Montrose Avenue last night which sent 3 people to the hospital.

Well know drug dealers. Police have busted that house last year for drugs. Shooting was drug deal gone bad. Maybe they will those folks out now.
the gossip around the block is someone from that house was talking smack to some people and those people came by and unloaded on people sitting on the porch. The people that got shot told the police they didn’t know the shooter but they did, they are going to take care of it themselfs. look in the paper tommorow for another shooting. And yes it’s a major drug house.
The last poster was a bit too prophetic. Within about ten minutes of his post a car full of kids opened fire on a another car on Brookland Park Boulevard not far from Montrose. I live in the 3000 block of Noble and heard several of the rounds. There are shell casings all up and down Brookland Park Boulevard and the street is currently blocked off by police. Whether it is connected or not I can’t say. It’s lucky that no one was hit because it’s a fairly well traveled stretch of street. This is NOT a typical Sunday afternoon for this area.
I drove up on this madness last night. Coming from Brookland Parkway down Montrose. Big crowd and two vehicles blocking the flow of traffic. When I saw tempers start to flare I decided to back up and out- on to Brookland Parkway. Came down Essex to turn onto Montrose. The crowd and vehicles were still there. As I turned, the gunfire erupted. At least 6 shots were fired from each side. Close range exchange. Then everyone scattered in all directions. I called the police and they responded very fast. I called the police this morning to get details. They could offer nothing.
that is not a drg house… people dnt kno wat there talkin bout so u 2 fucks need 2 stop liein with all this craxy stuff …. if u nt goin 2 say it 2 the hold family dnt say shit at all …… people all way talkin bad on a black people cus yall kno u are white…. the people who live in that house have jobs … so im goin 2 need 4 yall 2 stop talk bou my fuckin house….
Max, I hope you’ll at least attempt to pass that info along to Corrigan. This neighborhood will never change if we don’t all work together. We may not be able to control what RPD does with the info we give them, but we can at least create a paper trail that proves we passed along important information on a specific day at a specific time.
Well, Max, you were right. Drive by shooting happen about the same time you put your post up.
I’m really tried of the trash talking on this site. They really need a better way moderating. Maybe that RPD will get that block cleaned up for once. I tried not walk any where near that block anymore mainly cause of all the trash.
SORRY….. NOT GOING TO CALL THE POLICE WITH INFO,(BEEN THERE, DONE THAT)… NOT CAUSE I’M SCARED, CAUSE THEY DON’T DO S%^&, NOT CAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO,CAUSE THEY CAN’T ( POLITICS BABY)…….THIS ISN’T TV, THIS IS REAL LIFE AND REALITY FOR NORMAL PEOPLE ISN’T REALITY IN THE HOOD. UP IS DOWN ….DOWN IS UP…. IF YOU WANT TO MAKE CENSE OF THIS….. STOP TRYING……BEN LIVIN HERE FOR OVER 10 YEARS….. CAME IN NIAVE…..LEARENED A FEW THINGS OVER THE YEARS
richard….. what trash talkin do you speak of?
Explain the politics to me, please. I’ve only been here three years; I’d like to hear your perspective.
Just an FYI, the “noteworthy incident” report came out from the RPD this morning and does not mention a second shooting. Here are the 4th Precinct incidents listed:
Note that these are incidents the police deem “noteworthy,” and are also only reported incidents. If nothing was reported it wouldn’t show up.
Max, I’m speaking of the beer bottles and other household trash just thrown in the curb or down the rain drain.
I would have to agree with Max on the lack of political will of the higher ups in different City depts to address issue. The reason there is no political will is cause Battery Park and other neighborhoods are not using their voice effectively.
Example: Ginter Terrace reformed their association less then 2 years ago. They got together and decided they need traffic calming in their area. This fall just about everyone of their streets will have some sort of traffic calming device. I have been working for 6 years and now this fall they will be finally be putting something in on my street.
The difference: Is that it was just one person (me) that was pushing for something. Ginter Terrance works as a team to resolve issue.
We have too many people that want to sit around complain when something goes wrong and unwilling to put some time to resolve an issue. If we had more people involved it will spread the work load around.
Just a thought.
@ Ross – Thanks for that info. I’m surprised that the Sunday afternoon incident on Brookland Park Boulevard would not have shown up in that report. If inclusion in the report is triggered by someone calling 911 then it should have shown up – at least two of the neighbors I spoke to had personally called the police.
Are there other tools that folks can use to understand what crimes are happening in the neighborhood? One thing that I did learn Sunday in talking with some of my neighbors is that their access to a computer (and therefore blogs like this one) is limited.
Hey Val! I looked for you on Facebook to see if you’d seen this, but you are not there?!?
The RPD’s Crime Incident Information site has info on everything that is reported, but can take days to be updated. It’s a good way to find out what happened last week.
The Sector Lieutenants publish monthly newsletters that generally give info on high profile events and trends in the area. They or a representative will usually present this data at civic association meetings and take questions. I have found the Lt.’s that come to our meetings in Church Hill to be extremely helpful.
And for the other shots, I don’t think that I’ve ever seen “shots fired” come up as a noteworthy event unless someone actually catches one.
@ John_m – thanks for the other links. I will definitely be checking them both out and passing that info along to folks as well. And your point about “shots fired” not triggering a mention is a reasonable one. Sad that a bullet has to hit someone for it to be noteworthy, no?
As for Facebook – still stubbornly holding out….
TO THE NEWCOMERS OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD, IT ISN’T JUST THAT BLOCK IT’S THE WHOLE AREA! MOST OF THE YOUNG ADULTS IN THAT AREA ARE RAISED BY GRANDPARENTS (AND THEY ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN AT AN ELDERLY AGE) BECAUSE THE PARENTS WERE TO STRUNG OUT TO DO SO. MONTROSE IS ONE OF THE BETTER BLOCKS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. SO BEFORE YOU TO CONTINUE POINTING FINGERS , ACCUSING, SPECULATING AND JUDGING PEOPLE CHECK OUT YOUR OWN BACK YARD BECAUSE IM PRETTY SURE IT ISN’T SO CLEAN. I GUESS THE NEXT TIME YOU COME ACROSS A FORECLOSE HOME OR HOME SELLING FOR CHEAP THINKING YOU ARE GETTING OVER YOU WILL THINK TWICE. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! NOT CONDONING THE INCIDENT BY NO MEANS AT ALL HOWEVER MAKING COMMENTS ABOUT A SITUATION WHEN YOU HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE AT ALL IS “GOSSIP”. IF YOU WANT TO BE A PART OF THE SOLUTION PETITION FOR MORE YOUTH ACTIVITIES FOR THE NEIGHBORHOOD, MENTOR, OR SOMETHING TYPING ON THE KEYBOARD HELPS NO ONE. I’M GOING TO TELL YOU LIKE A OFFICER ONCE TOLD ME YOU LIVE IN A NEIGHBORHOOD NOT A GATED COMMUNITY! TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH BE A PART OF THE RESOLUTION NOT PROBLEM.THIS INCIDENT WAS PUBLIC BUT YOU MUST NOT HAVE READ ABOUT WHAT GOES ON BEHIND CLOSED DOORS IN THIS AREA AND ANY OTHER NEIGHBORHOODS BY THE SO CALLED “BETTER PEOPLE OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD”. SO WHILE YOU ARE COMPLAING MAKE SURE YOU IT’S ABOUT EVERYTHING,THE DRUNKS,THE HORTERS, THE PROSTITUTION,ROBBERIES,THE NON PROPERTY TAX PAYERS,CHILD MOLESTERS AND EVERYTHING ELSE. DO YOUR RESEARCH! NO I DONT LIVE IN THE AREA BUT I DID ONCE UPON A TIME.
What is a newcomer? Been here 7/8 years. 2900 Montrose is one of the worst blocks, because of the folks in that house. The only block that has 2900 Montrose beat is the 800 block of W Lancaster.
We don’t have prostitution issue like other areas. As for robberies, that’s in the Fan.
And since you no longer live here why are you in the conversation?
i’ve lived in a lot lot of places in my years and i have to say my black nieghbors have been some of the best. most images of this area is of thugs doing bad things, that does not represent the majority.
@ Richard because it’s a free world! And you must don’t get out much. I still have family in the area not on that block but in the area. I went to scchool in that area elementary on through high school. Not that I have anything to prove but 7/8 years says nothing. I believe the family in that home has owned the home since the 70′s if I’m not mistaken. So they were clearly their before you got there so what does that say about you? I definetly would never have moved into an area where I felt the living condition were just that awful. My point is when you don’t know what you are talking about it’s better to say nothing especially if you are doing nothing more for the community than complaining! And I bet you I know at least two of your neighbors (and I don’t even know where you live) that frequent the prostitutes in this area! When you have a finger to point there are always 2 pointed back at you. Everyone knows the media only reports what they want and it’s always far from the truth. I have been to iraq and back, never once has the media reporter anything close to the truth!
I agree maxfisher
NOT, It doesn’t say anything that I lived here 7/8 years and it doesn’t say anything they have lived in there house since the 70′s. I have the same amount of right to the “quiet enjoynment” of my home. Just like they do.
And you don’t know what I have done or not done in the neighborhood. But lets see, helped out elderly lady from having her house foreclosed on. Helped a elderly man that lived here since 1955, that was in danager of loosing his home to back taxes. Helped raised money for swin team. Raised money for the football team. Elderly couple got a stack of code violations from the city, hooked them up with Elder Homes to fix code violations for free. I did those things cause it was right thing to do for this people. I didn’t factor in how long someone lives in a neighborhood.
I could go on and on. So before you say I don’t care or all I do is complain maybe you should ask first. I do know what I’m talking about.
SMH! Like I stated you don’t know what you are talking about. And I quote:
“Well know drug dealers. Police have busted that house last year for drugs. Shooting was drug deal gone bad. Maybe they will those folks out now.”
Wrong…..Wrong…. Wrong Was that the only house busted for drugs last year on the block? Were there any arrest made? If so who is serving time for it? All these questions have (Public accessible) answers and if you knew them this statement would never have been made.
I enjoy working with troubled youth because they just need guidance and understanding. Adults who know it all are just another breed.
It was nice chatting!
@ Richard Since you are so persistant that it’s not the entire area. Check the crime web-site for Hanes, Garland, Crawford,Woodrow, Fendall and Barton for at least the last three years.
Once again I am not condoning the incident or justifying it at all. Because me personally I wouldn’t try and raise a dog in that neighborhood and commend you all! I just don’t think reporting “false facts and speculating” is helping the situation.
I live five blocks over from Montrose. I have personally witnessed people from this house on Montrose dealing drugs. I have also seen a person on my street, whom I have also witnessed dealing drugs, visiting the house on Montrose. And, I can understand Max Fisher’s frustration of having called police many times, only to have nothing come of the information I give. I am not afraid in this neighborhood at all. I walk alone frequently, and have never once worried for my safety. I’ve used the bus route downtown on North Ave., and am completely comfortable doing so.
“Not Important” brings up an important topic regarding the level on involvement in the neighborhood. While I don’t think the situation is completely as dire as declaring all children here are being raised by grandparents due to strung-out parents (only one house on my entire street fits this description), there is a delicate balance of involvement, personal time, and realizing that not everyone wants help. A group of people in the neighborhood should not dictate how people live their lives, and, therefore, cannot get involved more than a neighbor allows. At the same time, the neighbors have the responsibility to call the police when someone’s activity (presuming illegal here) affects surrounding neighbors.
TNL, you are right no one should dictate how or how much someone gets involved. Ever. It is up to individual to decide if they want to. I have issue when there is a issue, those people who are not involved when they have a problem they want the neighborhood’s help but when someone else or the neighborhood needs their help they disappear till they need help again. Or they are complaining about something and want other people to take time ou their lives. I’ll get off my soap box now.
Richard: I was more addressing the issue of “being part of the solution.” I think everyone should get involved, and I encourage people to do so, especially if they whine. What I meant by stating that “a group of people cannot dictate how people live their lives” is that even if that group of people (here, I am addressing the newer residents as “Not Important” seemed to be addressing) donated all their time, then they would just re-create the perception that a certain group is trying to take over the neighborhood.
hmmmmmmmm interesting stuff, no one or group is going to fix the problems of our area, can’t fix the world but you might change your block. Richard helped by, helping the the people on his block, keep there houses, bravo. One time we had drug dealers on our corner, so i sat on my porch with a 6 pack and a radio, play country music ( which i hate) at volume 11. Nieghbors thought i was crazy but so did the dealers. I moved here because of the affordable big gorgous houses and also didn’t want to ever live in white suburbea. My older black nieghbors are the best i’ve ever had anywhere.
We are always going to have drug houses and drug dealers here, look at the schools, look at the lack of jobs, for young black men, what’s left to do to make money….. you guest it …deal drugs. sad but true. it’s going to get worse because of the wave of forclosers coming. we live out on the edge, if you don’t like it, move to a gated community.
my advice, look at your block, try to help the good people on it. …the drug houses and drug dealers find creative ways to f with them. no fear! good luck
Max, thanks and your are right. Had to laugh about the country music. I used oprea (on 11), mumble to myself and played with a chainsaw. I have learned/learning that I can wait out the dealers cause it is only matter of time for them.
Richard… Amen….Make it fun……No Fear
Another shooting in that area tonight. 3000 block of Barton I think.
For the people that said no drug dealing was happening at 2902 Montrose Ave., you boy Christopher Canty got arrested for “manfu, sale poss control subst – Schedule I, II.
That was on the 28th of Oct. And the dealing on my street has increased. Still nothing from the the police dept.
It’s like playing whack-a-mole. You pop one house, another pops up.
