Northside murder numbers down from 2009

With more than half of the year behind us the Northside has seen only three murders this year — one in Ginter Park, one in Gilpin Court, and one in Carver. Depending on your definition of what constitutes the Northside the latter two may not even fall into the area.

This is a big improvement over last year where the area saw 11 murders — all in “Northside proper.”

In 2009 the murders in the Northside accounted for 26.8% of the city’s total murders (41). So far this year the area accounts for 16.6% (or 4.1% depending on how you draw the area).
