HVAC thefts continue
It seems like every month there is an outbreak of HVAC/pipe thefts. In July alone there were 24 incidents — sometimes with the thieves walking away with whole air conditioning units. NBC12 has the story:
This month alone, the Northside has seen 24 incidents of this type of theft. 15 of them have been in North Highland Park and 12 of those were in vacant homes.
Police have already made several arrests for these burglaries, including one person, who detectives said may be responsible for multiple incidents. Some of the thieves are still out there and many homes could still be targets.
As vacant homes comprised a substantial chunk of the break ins, police suggest that home owners keep their grass and hedges trimmed to help your house look lived-in.

The HVAC units can be stop or slowed by putting a lock on the junction box. This will prevent the theives from cutting the power to the unit and taking it.
