Where’s this Sears Alhambra?
We got a reader request yesterday to find this house:

The house is a Sears Alhambra kit house, sold between 1915 and 1920 from the Sears Modern Home mail order catalogue. About.com has the original sales sheet wich is super interesting and worth a read. Some of the highlights of the original home:
* Eight rooms
* A large brick mantel with a bookcase on each side
* Two stairways
* Separat closets for hats!

I don’t know where it is, but I love it! Now I’m dying to see what a “hat closet” actually looks like! Its interesting how the look of the house changes when the more conservative brick is used instead of the stucco in the artist’s rendering.
I’ve got a repop 1913 Sears Catalog. I’m always comparing it around Richmond. Pretty interesting stuff.
