Why Major Lewis Ginter deserves a statue

Phil Riggan’s blog has “a well thought piece up about getting Lewis Ginter a statue”:http://rotj.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/why-major-lewis-ginter-deserves-a-statue-in-richmond/ somewhere on the Northside. His three suggestions for locations:
* Hermitage Road and Bellevue & Pope avenues
* Brookland Parkway, Loxley Road and Rennie Avenue
* Laburnum Avenue and Brook Road
He’s even got a little bit of a cost breakdown. “Go read the whole post”:http://rotj.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/why-major-lewis-ginter-deserves-a-statue-in-richmond/!

Thank you for including this. I live in Lakeside and have long been an admirer of Lewis Ginter’s work. The Northside is a great place to live & play!
The Brookland/Loxley/Rennie site clearly has the room and lower traffic volume to accommodate a decent staue, as well as overlooking the institutions he helped locate in Northside. I’ve also heard from reliable sources that Frederick Law Olmsted’s firm (designers of Central Park in NYC) designed the layout for Brookland Park Boulvard in this area, which presumably explains the curving parkway-like design and wide planted median. As of several years ago the firm’s drawings were still at City Hall. a dual tribute to these two visionaries would be truly unique.
