More HVAC thefts
NBC12 is running a story on more thefts of HVAC units. We covered “a similar story back in December”:http://northrichmondnews.com/news/2009/12/26/police-warn-of-hvac-thefts/.
bq. The thieves didn’t break through a door or even try to go through a window. They went in through the crawl space. It happened in broad day light several times over a two-week period.
bq. [the police] call the burglar’s approach unique, but says what is being taken is nothing new. He’s just seeing a spike in the crime, recently in North Richmond. He says at least 16 heat pumps and air conditioning compressors have been stolen out of backyards in North Richmond since December.

Regarding the outside HVAC units there is a junication box that the unit hooks into and then runs into the house. The box is usuually grey and there is a eye hook where you can put a lock on it so the person can’t disconnect the power to unit.
