A Northside dog park
How great is this? A resident of the neighborhood wanted a dog park, took some proactive steps working with the city, and now it is becoming a reality. From “Richard Sebastian’s blog”:http://www.richardsebastian.com/2010/02/northside-dog-park/:
bq. I’ve been working with a small group of committed dog owners in the Northside community and with employees of the Richmond City Parks & Recreation Department (shout to Larry & Mary Lois) to make this dog park a reality. Together we’ve identified a great location — a grassy, wooded area across the parking lot from Pine Camp Arts Center — and have applied for and been approved to be a partner of the Richmond Recreation & Parks Foundation. This gives us 503c status and makes it easier to raise funds. After an orientation meeting with a member of the Foundation, we’ll be ready to go out and promote our park plans, recruit volunteers, and solicit financial help.

That is awesome! I was just thinking the other day about how nice it would be to have a dog park somewhere around the Battery Park/Southern Barton Heights area.
What do folks think about a dog park in this area?
Mo
I personally would love to have a dog park nearby, we tried to get the city to do one in Battery Park when they were going over the process for renovating after the flood, they said there was not enough space for it in Battery Park. If it does come, I hope they have areas for different weight limits.
There is that big lot near the school, where those apartments were at before the flood, That would be the only place where I can think of with parking nea by and not too close to houses. Right now it isn’t being used for anything.
That area is actually in Southern Barton Heights. I’ll see if Todd will speak with Ralph President of SBH. I do know that a group of people would have to raise money to put up a fence.
We could totally handle fence putting up though!
I’ve been having trouble hearing back from Southern Barton Heights Civic Association…can’t find out when/where the meetings are, last time I asked they weren’t sure….
Let me know if anyone finds out before me
I think it’s an awesome idea!
Mo.
This should help

Is there a single dog park in all of Henrico county?
I love the idea of a dog park. And in the general neiborhood at that. Here’s another idea, for cat people; how about a cat park as well? People hear so much about dog events and places, how about equal opportunities for cat owners? Either way, I love the idea for the park.
i think this is great! i was hoping one would be put in at Bryan Park, there are some great locations within that park too. Congrats on making this happen.
