Several people arrested in the Northside for prostitution
From the RPD:
To improve the safety and quality of life for many residents, Richmond Police officers conducted several citywide prostitution stings in the past two weeks.
The operations resulted in the arrest of 31 men and women on charges of prostitution, soliciting a prostitute and other crimes.
“No community should have to be subjected to this behavior in front of their homes or in their neighborhood, nor is it helpful to businesses in the area,” Major Peggy Horn said.
Those arrested in the Northside:
- Tasha Harris, 27, of Richmond, was charged with prostitution in the 3500 block of Chamberlayne Avenue
- Veronica M. Pool, 25, of Richmond, was charged with prostitution in the 3500 block of Chamberlayne Avenue
- Leana S. Austin, 41, of Henrico, was charged with prostitution at the intersection of Chamberlayne and Westminster
- Glenda M. Johnson, 42 of Richmond, was charged with prostitution at the intersection of Ladies Mile Road and Chamberlayne Avenue.
- Carolyn McLeod, 57, of Richmond, was charged with paraphernalia and prostitution at the intersection of Remie and Chamberlayne.
- Donald Baylor, 49, of Henrico, was charged with solicitation of a prostitute and drug possession in the 1000 block of Azalea Avenue

Why is there a need to display these women’s images? Why not also displaying men who are charged with paying for their services?
Fair point. I’ve updated the post and picture.
I realize the point is to highlight the RPD’s work on the Northside. I feel it’s always unfair to hold up sex workers as these vulgar, dirty nuisances while their clients receive very little scorn. These women deserve more kindness than they receive.
Why run the photos at all? Unless NRN is going to run photos of everyone convicted of a crime in Northside.
I’m all for putting pictures of the customers up. I would like to them posted in the newspaper.
The woman most of them, have issues drugs.
All of the photos are on Channel 12′s website.
The woman with short red hair used to hang out nexted to the R&S Grocery store on Brookland Park Blvd.
I’ve seen her there as well. My question was more about the way sex workers are demonized above other folks who are also arrested.
There is a program that these woman can enter now that they have been arrested. It’s called AND (a new direction) where they will receive drug treatment if needed and job training. I hate that these women are treated differently as if they aren’t already paying a higher personal price than other criminals. I hope they get the help they need. As far a the Johns go I would love some type of public posting.
These are the same people everyone is always complaining about working their corners etc, but now it seems that putting their pictures up is not right? I am confused by the double standard here.
And NRN and the RTD and PD all post pictures of those committing crimes… the newsletter has the 5 most wanted etc …
A – The AND program doesn’t work. The reason it doesn’t is because the women are not sent away first for drug rehab. Most are not able to go away for rehab cause they have children. And can not leave them.
In order for a program like AND to work is remove the women from easy access to the drug they are hooked on.
But then again, the police could start enforcing the drug laws in the city and that would help the problem.
I have pictures of “working girl” on Chamberlayne nexted to Envy’s Motel. Can you post them on here?
