Local vacant property owner convicted of 16 charges
After delaying the trial for more than an hour Oliver Lawrence was convicted of 16 charges. Lawrence had previously been convicted of over 150 charges — all suspended. Concerned citizens from Battery Park and Highland Park were in attendance.
Before yesterday, Lawrence already had been convicted of at least 152 misdemeanor property violations, fined $357,050 and sentenced to 270 days in jail, all suspended. Those charges stem from problems at more than 30 properties owned by Lawrence.
The fines and jail time were suspended as long as he doesn’t commit further violations.
Yesterday, city officials said Lawrence has not met that condition.

Michael Paul Williams has an editorial up about Lawrence:
As people who live on a street beside two of his properties, my neighbors and myself are constantly having to call the city about his properties. I am glad to see this nuisance being dealt with, but is is just a slap on the wrist! When will he actually do time or pay any fines?
Lawrence has a court date today at 12:30pm. I just found about it last night. Hopefully people can still come out.
Does anyone know what happened on Oliver Lawrence’s August 14th court date?
He only ended up with $500 for 5 violations with $2000 suspended for 5 years. Then the rest he had $100 per violation with $2400 rest suspended for 5 years.
He has some more court date soming up this month but I don’t know the dates.

I’m glad the City is making him spend sometime in one of own houses. I’m sure this is going to be last word from him.

I hope that his house on my street can go to the Association for the Conservation of Old Richmond Neighborhoods!
One of Oliver Lawrence’s houses on my street was auctioned off yesterday. It was one of several Bayou Properties’ in the past few months. You can read about it here: http://progress-index.com/news/more-local-lawrence-properties-to-go-on-auction-block-1.632495
He has had about 100 go into foreclosure recently.
