In with the new…
Two years ago, I started North Richmond News after a bit of badgering from John Murden, who founded the oldest of Richmond’s community news weblogs — Church Hill People’s News — several years earlier. I’m now passing the baton to John Murden, Ross Catrow and Valerie Catrow; Ross and Val moved into Northside last year, and run RVANews in their spare time.
North Richmond News has been a great way for me to connect with the community, and to think about the bird’s eye view of my immediate neighborhood. I’ve learned a lot about the people and businesses that make up Northside, and gained a lot of appreciation for the distinctions between the various neighborhoods and communities the bump into each other north of Broad Street.
I’ll still stay busy with Buttermilk & Molasses, but the joys of raising a toddler and starting my own business have forced me to prioritize my time.
John, Ross and Val will bring a lot of energy and consistency to North Richmond News, and I’ll continue to stay in touch with my neighborhood here.
Thanks for a great ride. See you around the ‘hood.

Thank you for all of your support for the Lakeside Businesses and Lakeside Community. My wife and I both grew up in Ginter Park and our parents still live on Pope Ave. and Westminster Canterbury. We have found your articles most interesting and informative. Good Luck, Peter Francisco
John-
Those are GREAT reasons to pass the workload!~
Hope to see you in the neighborhood and more then when the Stanleys come to town. Good luck and have fun with your little one!
John: Thank you for your time, your effort, your service to our community. NRN is one of my daily stops. Best, David
Thank you for starting and passing on this wonderful resource! Good luck in your new work!
Congratulations, and good job passing the baton.
I hope there are those out there who will start more neighborhood specific blogs for Ginter Park, Bryan Park, Bellevue, etc.
I’ve been walking around Belleview with my friend Warren and Buster the Dog. What a sweet little paradise of trees, flowers, birds, squirrels and neighbors. It’s become my refuge from downtown living.
Forever may you bloom.
Thank you John for your leadership in making North Richmond News a place to find out what is going in our northside community, but more importantly a way of getting to know our neighbors and a place to, every once in a while, get into a debate about the issues that confront us. Best wishes to you and your family and your future career endeavors.
