Several of the trees on Lorraine scheduled to be cut down are either dead or nearly dead. In collaboration with a neighbor I asked a certified arborist to evaluate each tree targeted for removal. He suggested mitigation and reduction pruning to address the problems with the trees. I will be meeting with Norm Brown, the city arborist responsible for Lorraine to look at the trees and discuss alternatives to removal. We hope to make Lorraine Ave a model for planning, pruning and planting in order to preserve and enhance the urban forest. Neighbors can help by calling the mayor and Chris Hilbert to support a citizen tree commission and asking the mayor to hire a qualified urban forest manager. Please contact me if you want to help.
