North Richmond Y receives grant funds

February 26, 2009 · Posted in

The North Richmond YMCA Community Center will be one of several area YMCA’s to benefit from $100,000 in grants that will allow more children and teens in low-income communities to participate in YMCA programs.

Altria Group Inc. and Capital One Financial Corp. each awarded $50,000 grants to provide assistance for memberships, day camp, child care and teen leadership development programs.

The grants will assist young people in neighborhoods near the North Richmond YMCA Community Center, Manchester Family YMCA, Downtown YMCA and Southside Virginia Family YMCA in Farmville.

“Helping out in child care is one of my favorite activities,” said Maurice Carter, a participant in the Manchester YMCA Leaders’ Club.

“It feels good to know some of the children I’ve mentored in child care are up-and-coming leaders.”
