From the City of Richmond:

Fall registration for the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities’ After School Programs will take place Sept. 2 through Sept. 5 from school closing to 5:30 p.m. each day. Registration is held in the school cafeterias of the 21 Richmond elementary schools where the program is offered.

The After School Program focuses on academics as well as life skills and character development. Children work on reading, math and homework everyday except Friday. The program also includes recreation activities and field trips.

“Our programs are a great way for working parents to ensure their children are supervised and in a safe environment after school,” said Department Director J. R. Pope. “The programs also give children time to do their homework and have some fun with assistance from our staff.”

This year, the After School Program’s theme is “Go Green,” and many of the activities will be environmentally focused.

Elementary schools where the After School Program is offered include: Bellevue, Blackwell, Broad Rock, Carver, Cary, Chimborazo, Clark Springs, Fairfield, Ginter Park/Mary Scott, George Mason, Maymont, Miles Jones, OakGrove/Bellemeade, Overby Sheppard, Redd, Reid, J.E.B. Stuart, Summer Hill/Ruffin Road, Swansboro and Woodville.

Enrollment in the After School Program is free, however, each child must purchase an After School “It Starts in Park” t-shirt for $5.

  1. I find it strange that enrollment would happen AFTER the school year. wouldn’t that make it near impossible to plan in advance for the care of your kids?
