Northside’s National Night Out event update

A sixth North Richmond neighborhood has joined the roster of National Night Out events being held in our community on Tuesday, August 5:

  • Battery Park: Books on Wheels will bring their bus, their books and their bikes to Battery Park as part of National Night Out on August 5. The event — hosted by the Battery Park Civic Association — will take place at 6:30pm at 2803 Dupont Circle.
  • Bellevue: Bellevue joins a number of other Northside neighborhoods for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5. Join the Bellevue Merchants Association and the Bellevue Civic Association from 6:30 until 8:30pm along MacArthur Avenue for a night of music, lemonade, cookies, ice cream floats and activities for kids. Fire Station 16 will bring their fire truck for the kids, and a soaker tent will be set up in the parking lot of Once Upon A Vine.
  • Highland Park: A number of groups are coming together to host an old-fashioned cookout at the Richmond/Henrico Turnpike cookout site (the site of the new green way) at Dove Street and Richmond/Henrico Turnpike. The event is totally free, and is from 5:00 until 8:30pm. All North Side residents are welcome and encouraged to attend. The menu includes burgers and hot-dogs, salad, baked beans, non-alcoholic beverages and ice cream. For fun, there will be old-fashioned “field day” type games and events for kids and parents, game prizes, door prizes, a bicycle decorating contest and parade, and musical entertainment. Parents and kids are encouraged to bring their bikes, and members of the Richmond Bicycle Club will be there to do free bicycle tune-ups and maintenance. Parking is available at the Dove St. Armory between 1st Avenue and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike.
  • Lakeside: There will be an ice cream social at the Lakeside United Methodist Church at 2333 Hilliard Road from 6:30 until 8:00pm.
  • North Central Civic Association: The North Central Civic Association will have cookout at North Central Park, located between Hanes and Fendall Avenues at Ladies Mile Road, for National Night Out. The event will be held from 5:30 until 9:00pm with luminaries around the park. Please stop by and introduce yourself.
  • Rosedale: The Rosedale Civic Association invites residents of the Rosedale neighborhood to join their neighbors on the lawn of Christ Ascension Church on August 5 for National Night Out. Rosedale residents are encouraged to bring their own picnic supper (and blankets and chairs) between 6:00 and 8:00pm. Cold drinks and watermelon will be provided.
