GRTC targets Brookland Park Boulevard bus
The Times-Dispatch reports that GRTC may be looking at eliminating its Route 20 bus, which travels along Brookland Park Boulevard near 4th Avenue to Brook and Hermitage roads to Willow Lawn. It would be part of a streamlining of the bus system’s routes. A hearing will be held on Tuesday at City Hall on the proposed cuts:
The Richmond City Council committee on Land Use, Housing and Transportation will hear a presentation Tuesday afternoon from GRTC officials about possible bus route eliminations.
The meeting is scheduled for 3-5 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall, 900 E. Broad St., and is open to the public.

[...] Recent announcements about GRTC bus routes are disturbing. We hope that they are part of a bigger move to BETTER mass transit with GRTC adopting BRT, Bus Rapid Transit, but we have no word on that yet and so we speak against the route eliminations on behalf of the workers who use them. This recent post on Treehugger.com reminds us that there are often conflicting agendas.”In Rochester, New York, a lot of kids take public transit to school; the transit authority even organized its routes and service times to accommodate them, which seems logical enough. But it is not logical to the Federal Transit Administration; according to the Campaign for America’s Future:The FTA’s regional administrator, Brigid Hynes-Cherin, said the authority’s actions violated regulations governing federal mass transit funding because even though the routes could be used by general public, they weren’t primarily for the general public. Plus, she added—and here is where we get to the real nub of the issue—public bus systems can’t use federal money to provide services that compete with, or crowd out, private sector bus companies.” [...]

Does GRTC run shuttle buses for the Tacky Lights tour or are there any buses to hop on without chartering a bus or booking a limousine
Oh, man! I most certainly hope not! Many, many people depend on the GRTC to get around; to and from work, events, shopping, you name it. To reduce or suspend these services will hurt more than the consumers who ride the city buses.
