Henrico approves farmer’s market for Lakeside
An outdoor farmers market is expected to open in Lakeside in May. The Henrico County Board of Supervisors voted this week to approve Peter Francisco’s plan to operate the market from the parking lot of the Lakeside Towne Center, on Lakeside Avenue near Hilliard Road. Francisco, who owns the shopping center with his wife, Sharon, said he expects to have 11 produce vendors. The market season would end Nov. 30.

Councilman’s North Richmond meetings resume on January 23
City Councilman Chris Hilbert will resume his monthly district meetings in January. The meeting will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, January 23, at the Police Training Academy on West Graham Road (off of Brook Road behind Virginia Union University). The January meeting will complete the final phase of district mission and vision planning; subsequent meetings will cover retirement planning, community clean-ups and presentations by Northside District 3 businesses.

‘Survivor Day’ training offered to City residents
On Saturday, January 5, residents of the City of Richmond are encouraged to participate in “Survivor Day,” a training program covering basic skills useful during emergencies. The four-hour training session, offered as part of winter preparedness by the City’s Office of Emergency Management, will cover fire safety, first-aid, anti-terrorism and weather response measures. A free Survival Kit, with supplies such as flashlight, gloves, batteries, toilet paper and a blanket, will be given out to residents who complete the training.
It all happens from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 5, at the Landmark Theater, 6 North Laurel Street. Pre-registration is required; call 646-7000 or register online at www.RichmondGov.com.

North Richmond teachers recognized
For 20 years, the R.E.B. Awards for Teaching Excellence program has recognized Richmond-area educators for excellence in the classroom. This year, two teachers at North Richmond’s Linwood Holton Elementary School were among the 15 winners of cash grants:
